About Us: HMCS YORK is proud to be Toronto’s Naval Reserve Division.
As a member of the Naval Reserve, you will truly see the world. Members of HMCS YORK travel all across Canada and around the world, contributing to the missions of the both the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Navy respectively.
Employment Model: Naval Reservists serve primarily in part-time roles, while leading full lives in the civilian world. There are also significant full-time opportunities, including full-time training that will usually occur over the summer period.
Our training model is built around the academic year. During the months from September to April, we work and train on a part-time basis in Toronto. From May to August each year, our sailors travel across Canada and work full-time to progress in their military training.
From September to April, HMCS YORK trains on Wednesday evenings from 7 pm to 10 pm, and one Saturday per month from 9 am to 5 pm.
All members of the Naval Reserve start their careers at their home unit. There is a package of lectures and distance learning material that must be covered in order to prepare for basic training. This package is completed on a part-time basis under instruction from HMCS YORK Training Staff.
The first full-time course for all members in their first summer is basic training, held at CFB Valcartier, located in Québec City.
Job Title: Intelligence Officers (Sea)
Intelligence Officers within the Naval Reserves, provide military intelligence support in operations, planning and decision-making at all levels of command within the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence.
Their primary responsibilities include:
- Plan and implement the collection, processing and dissemination of intelligence
- Recognize and analyze information which is likely to affect military operations, national policies and objectives
- Safeguard highly classified material
- Operate and manage Information Technology (IT) assets
Pay and Benefits: You will benefit from world-class leadership training and gain invaluable skills that will help you in your everyday life.
Members pursuing educational qualifications are eligible to receive up to $8000 in tuition reimbursement total (i.e. $2000 for each of your four years of post-secondary school).
While training away from your home, you will always receive paid travel, food, and accommodations, on top of your salary.
Pay is based on a daily rate. Pay rates increase annually, and upon promotion.
When working on a part-time basis, you will receive a full day’s pay (i.e. $99.12) for any event lasting longer than six hours, or a half-day’s pay for any event less than six hours.
When working on a full-time basis, including while on training, you will receive the full daily rate every day, on a salary basis.
Eligibility: Applicants must meet three conditions of basic eligibility.
Age – Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 57. There are no restrictions on applicants aged 18-57. Applicants aged 17 and 16 must have parental permission to apply, and applicants aged 16 must be in school.
Citizenship – Applicants must be citizens of Canada. Unfortunately, permanent residents are not eligible to apply.
Education – Applicants to officer roles must have, or be in the process of obtaining a university degree.
